The Gamzigrad archaeological site west of Zaječar

11 km from Zaječar

Gamzigrad

A village west of town with the UNESCO site of Felix Romuliana and the thermal spa.

Gamzigrad lies eleven kilometres west of Zaječar in the Crni Timok valley. The village itself is small – 945 inhabitants in 2002 – but carries two of the region's most important destinations: the late-Roman imperial residence of Felix Romuliana and, a few kilometres further, the Gamzigradska Banja spa.

The two combine into half a day or a full one. The road to Paraćin runs straight past, so access is easy.
