About

What this site is – and what it is not

A travel guide to a town almost nothing has been written about in German or English.

Why Zaječar.eu exists

Zaječar usually gets two sentences in guidebooks to Serbia, even though one of the most important late-Roman complexes in Europe stands eleven kilometres outside town. This site fills that gap: it describes what there actually is to see in Zaječar and the Timok Valley, how far apart the destinations lie and what a trip there involves in practice.

How we work

Factual statements on this site come from publicly verifiable sources: the UNESCO World Heritage List, information published by the Zaječar National Museum, the 2022 Serbian census, and the German-, English- and Serbian-language Wikipedia. Where a claim is disputed or cannot be substantiated, it is not on this site.

We deliberately do not carry star ratings, guest scores or room rates. Those change daily; copied or estimated figures would be worthless for planning. Prices and availability come from the booking services embedded on the page, in real time.

Opening hours of museums and archaeological sites and the dates of festivals shift by season. We therefore give periods rather than specific dates and recommend checking locally shortly before travelling.

Images

All photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences. Author, licence and a link back to the source page appear directly with each image on the detail pages.

Funding

Zaječar.eu is free to use and funded by advertising and commissions: if you book accommodation through a partner link or the embedded hotel map, we receive a fee. The price stays the same for you. Which properties we mention does not depend on whether they pay commission – the selection follows location and property type.

Sponsored articles are marked as such at the top of the page and carry no advertising.
